The Senior Manager Diversity, Equity & Inclusion is responsible for the management of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives and the evolving framework of the ESG program from a DEI viewpoint. The focus of this role includes overseeing the Diversity Council, the ongoing growth and implementation of progressive programs and trainings as well as building out the employee DEI ESG initiative. This individual must demonstrate the ability to align cross-functional partners through data, drive results from self and others, and organize multiple work teams and contributors.


  • Work with internal and external resources to develop diversity goals, oversee educational training program, serve as an advisor to the recruiting team to surface qualified diverse talent to achieve all company goals (stores, headquarters, and warehouse)
  • Focus on creating tools and framework that enable critical diversity initiatives
  • Articulate an ESG strategy that is directly tied to employee DEI
  • Create policies and guidelines related to sustainability programs
  • Coordinating with the BAB working groups in all business areas to ensure compliance with ESG recommendations
  • Ensure ESG implementation and compliance relating to DEI
  • Responsible for carrying out and continuously evolving the diversity roadmap
  • Work with the established Build-A-Bear Global Diversity Council to create and execute progressive company programs and initiatives
  • Manage global mentoring program
  • Build innovative programs, action plans, and follow up with key partners to achieve annual diversity goals
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in DEI topics as it relates to community activities, training, recruiting partnerships, employee conversations, and investigations
  • Identify critical metrics and create action plans to accomplish set goals and resolve discrepancies
  • Work alongside Training & Development Manager to implement necessary workshops
  • Effectively leverage data to propose solutions, track program key performance indicators and insights. Identify trends, ensure projects and programs align to company DEI priorities and key research


  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 5-7 years of experience managing and designing a DEI program or directly related field
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint required
  • Experience designing or redesigning an ESG program required
  • Experience partnering with senior leaders
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Flexible and adaptable to change
  • Valuable customer service skills
